Julia Cousins is a Senior Medical Architect for ETC. Her career is devoted to healthcare facilities with 15 years experience exclusively on the design and construction of medical projects. She has been a licensed architect since 1985 and has also many years of experience in general architectural practice. She holds an NCARB certificate and is a LEED AP as well as a member of the American Institute of Architects.
A native of the “Buckeye State" and born in Cleveland, Julia is an alumnus of Ohio State University with a Master of Architecture degree. Having lived in Southern California for the past 25 years, she also has earned a Master of Public Health in Health Services Administration from San Diego State University. The MPH education has allowed Julia to be knowledgeable of the delivery of healthcare services and patient care from the administrator's point of view and assists her in understanding the healthcare facility's true needs.
Dedicated to the architecture of healthcare, Julia has been fortunate to work on projects of all sizes and budgets, budgets and substantial experience as an architect/ project manager for large medical center projects. Before joining ETC, she worked on major hospital additions and new medical center campuses. She has also worked for a developer on the planning and design of medical offices and as an in-house architect for a major hospital. Her experience has included all aspects of medical center facilities from concept thru design thru completion of construction. She has experience with all hospital functional areas including the departments of surgery, intensive care, imaging, emergency, women's services, pediatrics, pharmacy, lab, gift shop, food services, plant services and administration. Her favorite aspect of projects is working with the large team of experts and then seeing it all come together for the opening to serve the healthcare needs of its community.
On the personal side, Julia enjoys the sunny California life-style of San Diego. She has 2 grown children attending college, and spends time at fitness activities at the local YMCA and in the outdoors. Additional hobbies include home improvement, decorating, gardening, creative cooking for friends, art projects, museums, theater and travel.
